Ophelia’s Denver

My girlfriend’s and I are part of Bitches that Brunch Denver and are constantly trying new brunch spots.  We had heard about Ophelia’s and wanted to check it out.  We had an issue with seating right off the bat. All of their tables could really only accommodate a table of 4 and we had 6 girls. We had to all sit side by side, which made it difficult to have a conversation. They were playing a samurai type movie on the screen with a lot of blood shed and grossness.  Not exactly the type of movie you would like to see while eating. The server came over and took our drink and food orders. The specialty cocktails were very good. A little pricey, but well made.  I ordered the chicken and waffles served with slaw. It was interesting.  I felt it was pretty dry.  It had barely enough syrup to cover the chicken, leaving nothing for the dried waffles. I wasn’t impressed by the food and from what I could gather from everyone else, they weren’t either. We couldn’t find our server for another round of drinks, so our glasses sat empty. We were all done with our meal and ready to leave by the time he came back around, so we paid our bill and went elsewhere for drinks afterwards. I would maybe suggest this place for a show and drinks, but otherwise, I feel like it was a bust.

PBR Bar (Professional Bull Riding) in Las Vegas

I have been to PBR bar for drinks a few times before, but hadn’t tried the food until now. I have been on a Mexican food kick all week, so to keep with that I got the chicken fajitas. The chicken had a great lime flavor to them, but for the cost, I felt like they were pretty mediocre. I could have gone to Chili’s down the strip and gotten better fajitas for half the price. The guacamole looked like runny baby poop and the fajitas weren’t served with any cheese. Brian decided to go out of the box and get the chicken and waffles pizza.  The pizza itself was good, but the chicken and waffles on top were extremely dry and lacked flavor. The service was really good, but the food was nothing worth getting excited about. We shared a fish bowl of margaritas with some friends of ours, which tasted really good. 100 ounces of margarita is a bit much, but they gladly give you to-go cups for any that can’t be consumed at the table.

Southern Hospitality

Some girlfriends and I love to brunch together.  We typically go to brunch every 2-4 weeks depending on our schedules. Sometimes it is difficult to get a group of 7-10 girls together. This month we wanted to go to Southern Hospitality.  We have heard great things about this place.  People rave about their food and service. I have to disagree with them. They seem to have a bit of a problem serving a table of 8. Their website wouldn’t allow me to make reservations saying they didn’t have anything available.  I called and they were perfectly fine with it.  Needless to say, they need to fix their website. After a few minutes going over the menu we began to order.  The waitress was clearly new and didn’t know very much about the menu.  She had to leave a few times to ask someone else in the kitchen any questions that we had.  We finally got our order and we laid back to enjoy the atmosphere. The place is much smaller than I had anticipated. That would explain why it was difficult to seat a party of 8. Our food arrived in pieces, so some were waiting at the table for other’s food to arrive. Once we all got our food, we started to chow down. The food was mediocre. For a place known for their southern food, they seem to lack the southern part. Everything needed seasoning, the grits were a weird consistency, and they are extremely over priced.  The waitress also was a bit rude.  When one of the girls placed cash with the bill, the waitress took it and didn’t bring back any change.  When we asked if we could get the change, she stated that she figured we were leaving the rest as a tip. First of all, no one should ever do that. Second, she stiffed herself of a bigger tip.  The girl was going to put more money in the bill fold once the change was brought back. I know this is Justin Timberlake’s restaurant, but they shouldn’t be so proud. I was very disappointed in this place.  Maybe everyone just hyped it up too much for me.
