Fritangas!

Mexican food and brunch always go well together in my books. We moved down the street from this place called Fritangas. The building used to be a Taco Bell back in the day and now has turned into a small quick dining joint. We finally tried it out and were not disappointed. I got a chicken fajita omelet with spicy pork green chili and hash browns. Brian decided on chorizo and eggs with potatoes, beans and mild pork green chili. What I learned was that their spicy green chili is on fire! The mild has better flavor and you can taste your food. 🙂 The chicken fajita omelet was killer. The food and service were fantastic.  The only drawbacks for this place is that the seating area is small and they close pretty early if you want a late night bite.

Tequila’s

What is a better way to celebrate a coworkers work anniversary then having margaritas? Not much, in my opinion.  He wanted to go to Tequila’s. I had never been there, so of course I am up for trying it out. We first sat at the bar while we waited for a table to open up outside.  The patio is small, so we knew we would have to wait a bit. A Mariachi band played loudly behind us, taking suggestions on what to play. Sauza girls walked around giving out free shots and I did partake in a few of those. We ordered some house margaritas, which were strong and served with friendly smiles.

We were seated at a patio table out front and began looking over the large menu. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted.  Everything sounded so good. I decided to go with something I have never had before, the Alambre. Comes with fajita meat chicken and steak or your choice of grilled chicken, asada, al pastor, chorizo or carnitas, onions, bell pepper, mushrooms and fresh pineapple mixed with melted cheese. Served over a bed of rice. I got the grilled chicken and continued drinking my extremely strong margaritas. The food arrived and it was the largest portion of food I have ever been served. IT WAS HUGE!! I seriously could only eat about a 10th of the food.  That is no exaggeration. Great food, but my goodness, the portions do not need to be so large.  Overall, great place! I love it.

Rockyard American Grill & Brewing Company

If you are looking for a helping portion of good Mexican food in the Castle Rock area, then you should take yourself to Rockyard. Their Mexican food is pretty good and served in large portions. I know they seem more known for their beer and burgers, but I am a fan of the Mexican food.  The beer is not that great and I haven’t had their burgers to give a review.

This time I tried the chicken fajitas. They came out steaming and still cooking on the skillet. I loved these fajitas! The chicken was tender and well seasoned. The shrimp was excellent! Everything about this dish was tasty.  Typically, I am not a fan of Mexican rice, but consumed the whole plate full at Rockyard.  Brian got the green chili and queso smothered chimichanga. It was HUGE! The pork green chili was amazing and oozing around the plate. I say try their Mexican food at least once.  You won’t be disappointed.

Las Fajitas in Aurora

Always on the hunt for great tacos, we decided one night to check out Las Fajitas on Parker Road. Once we got there, I changed my mind.  Since this place is called Las Fajitas, shouldn’t I try their fajitas? The service is a bit slow.  They weren’t even half full and the wait staff acted like they were extremely swamped. Once the waitress came over, I ordered the chicken fajitas and a large melon margarita. Brian got the mango margarita and the chicken fajita burrito. They came out piping hot. The fajitas were sizzling and smelled delicious. The portions are extremely huge.  We should have split a meal because we had a ton of leftovers. After the restaurant calmed down, the service got much better. The food was awesome and fairly priced. I would recommend going, but if they are busy, be prepared to wait a while.

PBR Bar (Professional Bull Riding) in Las Vegas

I have been to PBR bar for drinks a few times before, but hadn’t tried the food until now. I have been on a Mexican food kick all week, so to keep with that I got the chicken fajitas. The chicken had a great lime flavor to them, but for the cost, I felt like they were pretty mediocre. I could have gone to Chili’s down the strip and gotten better fajitas for half the price. The guacamole looked like runny baby poop and the fajitas weren’t served with any cheese. Brian decided to go out of the box and get the chicken and waffles pizza.  The pizza itself was good, but the chicken and waffles on top were extremely dry and lacked flavor. The service was really good, but the food was nothing worth getting excited about. We shared a fish bowl of margaritas with some friends of ours, which tasted really good. 100 ounces of margarita is a bit much, but they gladly give you to-go cups for any that can’t be consumed at the table.

Louis’ Diner In Littleton

I pulled up this local diner on Yelp and saw some bad reviews from 2012 and 2013. Mainly things complaining about the service and lack of English speaking servers. We didn’t have a single problem with any of the known issues listed. Immediately greeted by a friendly waitress and seated at a table of our choice, I was already happy.  This looked like it was going to be my new neighborhood food joint. The menu is pretty large and the waitress was eager with suggestions.  I know it was breakfast time, but the fajitas were calling my name. Brian went with the pregnant burrito.  That is basically a bean burrito stuffed with chile rellanos. Both were fantastic.  The owner/chef is from Mexico and knows how to make some great Mexican food. I already have a list of things that are on my must try list. I don’t care what the reviews say, this place is awesome!!

The Platte River Bar and Grill

The Platte has the best patio in Denver, in my opinion. Great atmosphere, great music, tasty food, large beers, and interesting staff. My mom was in town and I had to take her back to The Platte because she loves that she can sit on the patio and smoke.  That is a rare thing here in Denver.  We sat down and ordered some beers. When I said large, I was expecting a 22oz, not a liter.  So, I was quite shocked when she brought the stein out for me.  All I thought was, oh dear, we are going to be here for a while. We were not too hungry, so we split the chicken fajitas.  My cousin joined us for lunch, and he went with the turkey wrap.  It certainly looked good, and he said it was alright, but didn’t seem enthused by it.  The fajitas were sizzling and had a ton of peppers and onions with tender chicken breast on top.  They were good, but tasted like ones I actually make at home.  Next time, I will stick with their amazing enchiladas!

Salsa Brava Highlands Ranch

I drive by this place every day on my way to work and finally, after 3 months, stop in.  Great decision that was! We sat out on their patio, that I didn’t even know was there. A very friendly server came out and greeted us.  He explained how their lunch specials work, happy hour, and how they treat their staff. Great waiter, with great suggestions. I went with the chicken fajitas.  I guess that sounded fantastic to Brian too, because he got the same thing. They came out sizzling with with tender, well seasoned chicken breast, a lot of onions, and of course all the great fixins for the side.  YUM! This was a great choice! I had to pat myself on the back.  After the waiter explained their pineapple infused martinis, which I will find out if they rival Del Friscos, then I decided I must come back, again and again and again. I say that if you enjoy Mexican food and are in the Highlands Ranch area, check it out!
