Pete Rose Sports Bar and Grill

After walking around and reading breakfast menu and after breakfast menu, we ended up at Pete Rose’s restaurant.  Great location on the strip and perfect for people watching.  We were seated on the patio and glanced over the menu. I knew exactly what I wanted, just  basic breakfast with eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. So simple, yet so hard to find in Vegas. Brian went with the lox and bagel. The service was not the best, but wasn’t horrible. Overall, it was priced well, especially for the strip, and the food was really good.

Jax Brunch in Glendale

My girlfriends wanted to have brunch at Jax Fish House in Glendale. Of course, I was in. I have never had brunch there before, so I was excited to try new dishes.  To get the party started, we ordered some mimosas.  They offer several flavors to pick from. I wanted seafood since it is a fish house, but they really don’t have much on the brunch menu that has seafood in it.  I settled on a few things to cover all bases. Oysters to start off the brunch were fantastic. Then got the chicken and crawfish gumbo. This dish was phenomenal! I wanted more.  Then to wrap it up, I got biscuits and gravy topped with sunny side up eggs.  What a great overall brunch. The service was great and perfect atmosphere. Great job Jax!

The Squeaky Bean

I met up with some fellow Yelpers to have brunch at the Squeaky Bean. I wanted to play bingo, since they are known for brunch and bingo, but apparently the bingo option was full. We arrived and began ordering some drinks. I tried my very first gin bloody mary, which surprisingly wasn’t that bad. The service was a bit slow bringing drinks and food out. I honestly didn’t feel like anything that they had on the brunch menu, so I ended having their cheeseburger. It was good, but not for $15.  Their whole menu is a bit overpriced for what you get. I wasn’t truly impressed, especially since I have heard great things about this place.

Bob’s Hawaiian Style Restaurant

While looking for places to eat in the Gardena area of California, we stumbled upon Bob’s Hawaiian. Having been to Hawaii a few times, I am always in search of some good spam. Well, I found some! Bob’s is a cute  restaurant owned by an adorable couple.  Great Hawaiian food and the staff were extremely friendly. The place wasn’t busy during the breakfast hours, but then again, it was during the week. I had to get the typical spam and eggs, with rice, macaroni salad and sausage. Excellent! All of it was excellent! If I am ever in the Gardena area again, I will for sure be back to Bob’s!

Grand Central Market with Eggslut and Villa Moreliana

I was watching Foodporn one day and saw the episode featuring Eggslut. I was planning my trip to LA already, so Eggslut jumped on my list of places that I had to try. We arrived at Grand Central Market and were put off a bit when we saw how long the line was for Eggslut. Apparently the word got out. We decided to check out the rest of the market before we got in line, just in case it got shorter.  The market is amazing! Any kind of food that you could crave was available and for decent prices. I was overwhelmed and wanted to try something from each place but my stomach just wouldn’t allow it. We finally wandered back to Eggslut and jumped in line. I was starving and realized that this line wasn’t moving too quickly.  About 20 minutes into the wait, my fiance headed over to Villa Moreliana and grabbed some carnitas tacos and handed me one of them. The taco melted in my mouth. The meat was so tender and very well seasoned. I wanted more, but I also wanted Eggslut. I had to continue to wait.  The line took roughly an hour and 15 minutes to get to the register.  I ordered a Fairfax. The Fairfax has soft scrambled eggs and chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo in a warm brioche bun. I added avocado and bacon which was the best decision of my life! We somehow scooped 2 seats at the bar and watched the magic happen.  The sandwich was phenomenal. By far, the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. I was in love. Sure it took an hour and a half to grace this beautiful creation on my taste buds, but it was well worth it. I cannot speak highly enough of Eggslut. Now, if only they would open a location in Denver…

Rosie’s Diner

What a cute little diner! This place is adorable and I love it. Super friendly, upbeat staff. Large menu to choices to pick from. I can’t get enough of this 50’s diner. We settled on the La Bamba skillet and the strawberry stuffed french toast. Both were served with a smile. The french toast was smothers with strawberries and cream. The La Bamba skillet was exactly what I wanted. Potatoes, covered with diced ham, onions, bell peppers, eggs and smothered with green chili. Delish!! I love everything about this place!

Fritangas!

Mexican food and brunch always go well together in my books. We moved down the street from this place called Fritangas. The building used to be a Taco Bell back in the day and now has turned into a small quick dining joint. We finally tried it out and were not disappointed. I got a chicken fajita omelet with spicy pork green chili and hash browns. Brian decided on chorizo and eggs with potatoes, beans and mild pork green chili. What I learned was that their spicy green chili is on fire! The mild has better flavor and you can taste your food. 🙂 The chicken fajita omelet was killer. The food and service were fantastic.  The only drawbacks for this place is that the seating area is small and they close pretty early if you want a late night bite.

Katsu Ramen

My first  ramen experience besides the packaged Maruchan ramen was on the island of Oahu. I loved it so much, I ate there multiple times on each of my trips. I have now tried a few places here in Denver to compare to. This time, I tried Katsu Ramen. They were voted best ramen in Denver by Westwood magazine. I figured I had to check them out and see just how good they are. I ordered the miso ramen and Brian got the shoyu ramen bowl.  To start off, we got their gyoza to share.  The gyoza arrived at the table and we both went to grab one.  They crumbled in our chopsticks. By crumbled, I mean completely fell apart.  They were extremely under cooked and mushy. I was not a fan at all. The ramen bowls arrived and looked fantastic. The presentation was beautiful. I grabbed my first bite and it tasted pretty good. A bit bland when comparing it to island ramen, but still had some good taste to it.  Brian’s bowl on the other hand, was just plain gross. It almost had too many flavors that were overpowering each other. We tried adding some soy sauce and sriracha to it, but nothing could make this bowl taste good. The service was good,  but I still felt that it wasn’t worth the meal. I think I will stick to pho from now on.

Racines for Brunch

Racines has a giant menu and a good choice of brunch cocktails. This is why we picked it for a lovely brunch with my girlfriends. They were very accommodating when making a large reservation and were ready for us when we arrived. The hostess was very friendly however, the server was not so much.  She seemed awkward and abrupt when taking our  order or bringing us drinks. Not sure if she was having a bad day, but I hope it got better for her. I was feeling eggs, so I got the Farmer’s Breakfast with two sunny side up eggs, hash browns, and sausage. When the meal came out, it was exactly what my stomach wanted. Tasty and priced well.  We all had a great meal, and a great time.  Thanks Racines!

Dozens in Aurora

Always on the hunt for good brunch places, I came across this restaurant on Yelp. Most reviews were people complaining about the atmosphere, the hard to read menu and the slow service. I figured I would check it out and get my own opinion. Really glad I did. They are wrong.  First off, the atmosphere is country style.  It doesn’t need updating. Although the menu is a bit difficult to read, it is something original. At least they aren’t plain Jane like Denny’s. The service was not slow at all for me. The waitress was super friendly and helpful with suggestions. After I was eye balling this ladies dish next to me, the waitress suggested I get the Blue Bonnet Sonnet smothered in green chili. It was fantastic and I had plenty of leftovers since their portions are huge. I give this place 2 thumbs up and I will be back over and over again.
