Real De Minas

Word of mouth is probably one of the best marketing strategies there are out there.  Word of mouth is what brought me to Real De Minas for some delectable Mexican food. I had heard from several people that they have some of the best Mexican food in the Aurora area. That is not a lie. The menu is probably the biggest menu I have seen at any Mexican restaurant. I went there with intentions of getting fajitas, but one of the combinations sounded so much better.  I got the build your own combo with 2 chicken enchiladas and a ground beef taco. Brian went with the burrito de chili relleno and added chicharrons to it.  The burrito was HUGE!! The food was amazing. The recommendations were spot on. I love their food and the server was awesome and very attentive.  The margaritas were strong, and had great flavor, little heart burn. I will be back over and over.  I highly suggest trying Real De Minas if you are in the mood for some great Mexican food.

Tacos La Morienta

Okay, so I live in Aurora now and I hear they have the best inexpensive food in the Denver metro area.  So far, I am finding that is correct. This hole in the wall taco joint is a fabulous find. Cheap cheap and more cheap. I love some street tacos and they are only $1.50 each at Tacos La Morienta. Nothing on their menu is above $7.50. They barely speak English and they provide some of the best verde salsa I have ever had. I got 5 tacos and Brian got a smothered burrito. Cheap dinner and extremely good food. When I asked for extra verde sauce, she gave me a helping portion with a smile.  I love this place and it is now my go to for tacos in Aurora.

Jack-n-Grill

I have conquered the Jack-n-Grill’s 7lb burrito challenge featured on Man VS Food.  Sure it was with 3 other people and one was pregnant, but I was part of that team that consumed the whole thing. Even the chef came out and praised us. That was 5 years ago. I actually haven’t been back since, until now.  I was feeling Mexican food and thought of Jack-n-Grill.  There was only one other table of people in the entire restaurant. That seemed a little weird to me.  Last time I was here, the place was hopping. We order margaritas and looked over the menu.  I realized at that time, that I had never seen the menu before. I went there with intentions to get tacos, but after seeing that they make them with potatoes, I was done. I feel like that is the cheap way to make them. Enchiladas sounded good, so I glanced over the section and was shocked to see that they come in a group of 5. 5 enchiladas is entirely too much. It also comes with beans and rice. Well, at least I will have leftovers. Brian went with a burrito.  Both plates came out and were extremely overwhelmingly big. The enchiladas I picked were chicken.  The plate had cheese enchiladas with a bunch of shredded chicken laying on top. I wasn’t happy.  The food was not that good and service was lacking.  The waitress seemed none too thrilled to be helping us and couldn’t find her to order a second margarita. They seem to focus too much on quantity instead of quality.  I won’t be back anytime soon, if ever.

Louis’ Diner In Littleton

I pulled up this local diner on Yelp and saw some bad reviews from 2012 and 2013. Mainly things complaining about the service and lack of English speaking servers. We didn’t have a single problem with any of the known issues listed. Immediately greeted by a friendly waitress and seated at a table of our choice, I was already happy.  This looked like it was going to be my new neighborhood food joint. The menu is pretty large and the waitress was eager with suggestions.  I know it was breakfast time, but the fajitas were calling my name. Brian went with the pregnant burrito.  That is basically a bean burrito stuffed with chile rellanos. Both were fantastic.  The owner/chef is from Mexico and knows how to make some great Mexican food. I already have a list of things that are on my must try list. I don’t care what the reviews say, this place is awesome!!

Santa Fe Cantina

I have stumbled upon a cute little courtyard with numerous food joints that are new to me. It is located on Santa Fe, just south of Belleview. Located in the courtyard is a Panda Express, a wood fired pizza place, Lamar’s donuts, a place called Wing Slingers, and Santa Fe Cantina.  I was feeling like a breakfast burrito and I am glad that Brian decided to share it with me.  It was huge! With bacon, chorizo, eggs and potatoes, smothered in green chili, this burrito was packed. It was very good, except I feel that the chorizo should have been seasoned some more. The green chili had to make up for the lack of flavor in the chorizo. I would like to go back and try other menu items and see how they compare.

Santiago’s Breakfast #Burritos

I have heard from numerous people, numerous times how fantastic Santiago’s breakfast burritos were.  I had yet to try them when someone at work mentioned that there were a stack of them in the kitchen for us. I ran! Literally. I grabbed one, not caring what it was filled with and took a bite. It was good.,but, not as awesome as everyone has said they were.  I honestly think Illegal Pete’s has way better breakfast burritos. It was filled with some meat, cheese and pork green chili, but I felt like it was lacking something. It needed something with some umph. The other thing I noticed was how small they are.  Shocking, because I pictured them to be big and filled with unicorns. Oh well, it was a good burrito though.
