Hamburger Mary’s

I had been to Hamburger Mary’s for drinks before, but had never eaten there.  I was taking a one day class in the area and really wanted to try their food.  I glanced over the menu the night before and knew exactly what I wanted. The LGBT. Yes, very politically correct, and an amazing sandwich. Amazing isn’t even the best word to describe it. It was pretty phenomenal. Lettuce, guacamole, bacon and tomato on toasted bread. It sounds so plain. It was nothing near plain. The guacamole was whipped together so well, it made the sandwich. Ozzing with this tasty guacamole, I was in heaven. It came served with well seasoned french fries on the side. The service was not the best I had ever had.  Especially for a not so busy weekday lunch. I saw a few people come in after me, get seated, order and get their drinks before I was even greeted at my table. The sandwich made up for it though. I now have dreams of this sandwich and will be back to enjoy it again.

Old Blinking Light

We had some friends in from Chicago and we were showing them around town.  After leaving Red Rocks, we were trying to think of a place to have lunch, and Old Blinking Light came to mind.  We were seated on the patio on a beautiful day. I glanced over the menu and settled on the stacked enchiladas and added grilled chicken. I honestly just expected the usual chicken enchiladas.  Boy was I surprised when this beautiful dish arrived in front of me and looked almost too delicious to eat.  I jumped in and my mouth was even watering as I was consuming it.  I couldn’t eat it all because it was a very large portion, but I was very happy to get a to go box for the rest.  It was amazing!! Even the leftovers were amazing! I would suggest anyone who goes to OBL, get the stacked enchiladas!! You won’t be disappointed.

Real De Minas

Word of mouth is probably one of the best marketing strategies there are out there.  Word of mouth is what brought me to Real De Minas for some delectable Mexican food. I had heard from several people that they have some of the best Mexican food in the Aurora area. That is not a lie. The menu is probably the biggest menu I have seen at any Mexican restaurant. I went there with intentions of getting fajitas, but one of the combinations sounded so much better.  I got the build your own combo with 2 chicken enchiladas and a ground beef taco. Brian went with the burrito de chili relleno and added chicharrons to it.  The burrito was HUGE!! The food was amazing. The recommendations were spot on. I love their food and the server was awesome and very attentive.  The margaritas were strong, and had great flavor, little heart burn. I will be back over and over.  I highly suggest trying Real De Minas if you are in the mood for some great Mexican food.

Lola in the Highlands

I had only been to Lola for drinks prior to a friend’s birthday dinner.  Now was my chance to try their food that I kept hearing about. It took me what seemed like forever to pick my meal. I couldn’t seem to make up my mind. I finally had to just point at one and go with it. I selected the Tampiquena which is Kobe sirloin, smoked cheddar & mushroom enchilada, with heirloom pinto beans. To start, the table got guacamole and my fiance and I ordered some oysters. The guac was made tableside and was presented well.  It was extremely tangy and a good amount of spice. Excellent I would say.  The oysters were a bit small, but tasted good as well. The silver coin margaritas were especially potent and tasted awesome.  I will definitely be getting these in the future. The meals arrived for dinner and mine looked beautiful. I bit into the medium rare sirloin and was really happy. The beef was cooked and seasoned well. The enchilada tasted gross though.  It was the only part of the dish that I didn’t enjoy. The service was prompt and friendly from all staff. I love that they have valet as well! Sorry the pictures are so dark.  There isn’t much light in the restaurant.

Cabo Wabo in Las Vegas

A scrambled egg quesadilla sounded really weird to me, but I agreed to try it. We split the breakfast quesailla and added a side of guacamole. Shockingly, it was extremely tasty. I am glad I added the guacamole, because it really brought together the flavors in the quesadilla. It was served with a side of potatoes and a semi spicy sauce. Great start to the day. To accompany the quesadilla we each got a drink.  I went with the Desert Pear Margarita and Brian went with the crazy, alcohol fueled Can’t Drive 55. Both were great choices, but I would suggest getting a pitcher.  You get more bang for your buck.

Blue Spruce Brewery in Centennial

Beer beer beer beer. I love tasting new beers. We were trying to find a place to watch the Broncos game one Sunday and picked Blue Spruce because we hadn’t been there yet. They have a wide variety of beers to pick from and I couldn’t choose just one or two. So, I got 2 sets of the sampler which includes tasters of 4 different beers. Honestly my favorite one was the vanilla porter.  I am typically not a fan of dark beers, but this one was light in flavor and has a great after taste of the vanilla.  Totally a fan now.  They also serve food, which is odd from a brewery. We perused the menu and stumbled upon the carne asada.  I am a bit of a carne asada whore.  Growing up in Tucson, Arizona, I find it hard to get good Mexican food in Colorado. I ventured with the carne asada street tacos and Brian got the carne asada fries.  We usually get these great dishes from Tacos Rapidos on Federal and Evans, but thought we would give them a whirl at this new brewery. The food came out and looked absolutely delicious. The carne asada fries were huge and you were given a couple of salsa choices for each dish. I put some green salsa on my taco and bit into it. Awesomeness. It wasn’t quite the same, but they were some damn good tacos. The rice wasn’t that great.  It lacked that kick. The beans however, were amazing and covered in sprinkled cheese. The carne asada fries were in the same boat.  They weren’t quite the same, but as Brian put it, they were the gourmet version of carne asada fries. The chili beer complimented the Mexican food well and was also a great choice. I can’t wait to go back and try more items on the menu.
