Tequila’s

What is a better way to celebrate a coworkers work anniversary then having margaritas? Not much, in my opinion.  He wanted to go to Tequila’s. I had never been there, so of course I am up for trying it out. We first sat at the bar while we waited for a table to open up outside.  The patio is small, so we knew we would have to wait a bit. A Mariachi band played loudly behind us, taking suggestions on what to play. Sauza girls walked around giving out free shots and I did partake in a few of those. We ordered some house margaritas, which were strong and served with friendly smiles.

We were seated at a patio table out front and began looking over the large menu. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted.  Everything sounded so good. I decided to go with something I have never had before, the Alambre. Comes with fajita meat chicken and steak or your choice of grilled chicken, asada, al pastor, chorizo or carnitas, onions, bell pepper, mushrooms and fresh pineapple mixed with melted cheese. Served over a bed of rice. I got the grilled chicken and continued drinking my extremely strong margaritas. The food arrived and it was the largest portion of food I have ever been served. IT WAS HUGE!! I seriously could only eat about a 10th of the food.  That is no exaggeration. Great food, but my goodness, the portions do not need to be so large.  Overall, great place! I love it.

Hacienda Colorado

Tacos tacos tacos. I love tacos. Hacienda is home to my favorite tacos in Colorado. The ground beef is seasoned well and tickles my taste buds. Okay, maybe that is an extreme thing to say, but I do love Hacienda. Everything I have ever had there is amazing and prepared well. The charro beans have a great mix of beans and tomatoes, to where it is not just a blob of beans. I usually get extra charro beans because I like them so much. The staff seem to stay for a while and I don’t see a lot of turnover.  In fact, one of the bartenders has been there as long as I have been going about 7 years ago. They also have excellent margaritas.  A bit pricey, but well worth it for good Mexican food and drinks. Thanks for being so awesome Hacienda! You make it easier for someone from Arizona to enjoy Mexican food in Colorado.

Las Fajitas in Aurora

Always on the hunt for great tacos, we decided one night to check out Las Fajitas on Parker Road. Once we got there, I changed my mind.  Since this place is called Las Fajitas, shouldn’t I try their fajitas? The service is a bit slow.  They weren’t even half full and the wait staff acted like they were extremely swamped. Once the waitress came over, I ordered the chicken fajitas and a large melon margarita. Brian got the mango margarita and the chicken fajita burrito. They came out piping hot. The fajitas were sizzling and smelled delicious. The portions are extremely huge.  We should have split a meal because we had a ton of leftovers. After the restaurant calmed down, the service got much better. The food was awesome and fairly priced. I would recommend going, but if they are busy, be prepared to wait a while.

Jack-n-Grill

I have conquered the Jack-n-Grill’s 7lb burrito challenge featured on Man VS Food.  Sure it was with 3 other people and one was pregnant, but I was part of that team that consumed the whole thing. Even the chef came out and praised us. That was 5 years ago. I actually haven’t been back since, until now.  I was feeling Mexican food and thought of Jack-n-Grill.  There was only one other table of people in the entire restaurant. That seemed a little weird to me.  Last time I was here, the place was hopping. We order margaritas and looked over the menu.  I realized at that time, that I had never seen the menu before. I went there with intentions to get tacos, but after seeing that they make them with potatoes, I was done. I feel like that is the cheap way to make them. Enchiladas sounded good, so I glanced over the section and was shocked to see that they come in a group of 5. 5 enchiladas is entirely too much. It also comes with beans and rice. Well, at least I will have leftovers. Brian went with a burrito.  Both plates came out and were extremely overwhelmingly big. The enchiladas I picked were chicken.  The plate had cheese enchiladas with a bunch of shredded chicken laying on top. I wasn’t happy.  The food was not that good and service was lacking.  The waitress seemed none too thrilled to be helping us and couldn’t find her to order a second margarita. They seem to focus too much on quantity instead of quality.  I won’t be back anytime soon, if ever.

Zanitas

I read about this Mexican fusion place that was located in Boulder, but just wasn’t making the Boulder cut, so they moved to the DTC off Hampden.  The menu sounded interesting and the prices were pretty good. After a couple months of it being open, I finally stopped in for some tacos and margs. We got a pitcher of margarita on the rocks.  I got a chicken taco and a ground beef one with rice and beans.  Brian went a little crazy and got the Ms. Piggy burrito with mac n’ cheese, sausage, fried pickles, and slaw.  Honestly, the only thing that tasted good beside the margaritas were the beans. The ground beef was over seasoned with a weird flavor, the chicken was tough and the burrito was just plain over the top. I was not a fan at all.  We may have gotten the wrong items, but I am not sure if I am going to go back to find out. They do have some great margaritas though, if you just want a drink.

Outback for lunch? Why not!

I went with a friend to Outback today for lunch because I was craving some crab legs.  Who am I kidding.  I am always craving crab legs. They are in my top 5 favorite things to eat. We had a great server. He was on top of drinks, great at recommendations and seemed like he was always at out table to help. We start with shrimp cooked on the barbie! The sauce was a weird addition to the shrimp, but they were tasty without the sauce.  🙂  Great, well cooked steak.  I think this was the best steak I have ever had at Outback.  I got the 6oz sirloin cooked to a perfect medium rare… argghhhhhhhhh…..(drool) and green beans with a side order of crab legs. This was a great visit to Outback and well worth the lunch.
