Delectable Egg in DTC

In my effort to always find new and different places to dine for breakfast, I stumbled upon Delectable Egg in the Tech Center. The place was packed and we were lucky to find two seats at the bar. We took a while to go over the large menu.  They have quite a variety to pick from. I finally settled on the early riser skillet and added pork green chile on top and my fiance got the stuffed french toast. When the food arrived, I was overwhelmed. They have pretty large portions and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to finish all the food.  That was true, but they made fantastic leftovers. The service was great as well.  Danielle was always there to fill up our glasses of tea and make sure everything was what we wanted. She was awesome! Great staff and delicious food equals a delectable dining experience.

Los Chingones DTC

Okay, I have now found my new favorite Mexican fusion type restaurant. This place is awesome! A friend told me it was a good place for a drink and good food. They hit the nail on the head. Fantastic atmosphere, super friendly staff, tasty margaritas, and eclectic Mexican food. I absolutely love this restaurant. The first time I went, I couldn’t figure out what to get.  I ended up starting with a salsa flight so I could try all of them. My favorite was the tomatillo salsa, but all were really good. For my entree I picked the tamal and a red chile pork shoulder taco. The taco was a bit bland, especially for having chipotle pineapple salsa on it. It was good, but I expected more out of it. The tamal was phenomenal! This is by far my favorite dish that I have had there. Oozing with chipotle cream, this dish is full of different flavors that all come together very well. I am in love with the tamal and can’t seem to get enough.  Each time I go, I try something different, but add the tamal. I still haven’t been to the location downtown, but if it is half as good as the DTC location, then I will be happy.

Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar

A co-worker insisted I try Bad Daddy’s for an excellent burger. I cannot turn down such a request, so we stopped in to check this place out. The atmosphere is awesome. I like the look and feel of the place.  The staff were attentive and eager to assist at anytime during your visit. At one point I saw about 8 staff members in just the small area we were in checking on people, monitoring other staff members to make sure everything was up to par and running food/drinks. Great wait staff! We perused the menu and I settled with building my own burger.  On each table they have a pad of paper with all of the options and you can just check your life away on what toppings you want to make your burger yours. I went with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, american cheese, ketchup and garlic mayo. I ❤ garlic and when I saw that as an option, I had to check the box. Brian got the Oktoberfest Bratwurst burger. Holy cow! That thing was massive! And messy! Mine was messy as well, which of course is a good thing when it comes to a burger.  I liked my burger quite a bit, but felt that for the cost, it was just not the best.  They are a bit pricy for what you get.  I did love my experience there and the burgers were great, but not sure if this will become a frequent place for us.

Zink for Valentine’s Day Dinner

It is pretty much a tradition for my boyfriend and I to go to dinner at Zink for Valentine’s Day dinner. I believe we have been 4 times out of the 7 years we have been together.  This year was no exception and not sure how I feel about it.  They always have a pre-fix menu that you can select from, and usually it has some amazing deals and excellent food.  This year was so so. The service was a little horrendous. The waitress was so high strung that she was stressing me out. Everything we asked about that wasn’t on their specials menu, she talked down. The dessert we asked about, she talked down. The beer options she talked down.  She threw my salad and our dessert on the table as she rushed by.  I saw that other tables were offered fresh cracked pepper, but I couldn’t even stop her to ask if I could get some. The caesar salad was amazing. The dressing was seriously perfect. I ordered the mahi and Brian got the braised buffalo, both were on the special menu.  They were interesting, but seemed like they were trying to hard to be different, and not hard enough on making things taste good that go together. We went with the bottle of wine that was on the special menu.  The waitress lied about how many bottles they had to sell as many as possible.  When we first sat down, she told us that they only had 4 left.  We ordered one, the table next to us ordered 2, and I saw three other tables order at least one.  Then a manager walked by later in the evening with 4 bottles in hand.  I really don’t like to be lied to just to sell something. I probably would have gotten a bottle regardless. For dessert we went with the apple bites.  I loved them! Basically it was apple pie bites with a serving of salted caramel gelato.  Delish. I love this place, so I will come back, but they should really focus on their service and not trying too hard on the food.

Zanitas

I read about this Mexican fusion place that was located in Boulder, but just wasn’t making the Boulder cut, so they moved to the DTC off Hampden.  The menu sounded interesting and the prices were pretty good. After a couple months of it being open, I finally stopped in for some tacos and margs. We got a pitcher of margarita on the rocks.  I got a chicken taco and a ground beef one with rice and beans.  Brian went a little crazy and got the Ms. Piggy burrito with mac n’ cheese, sausage, fried pickles, and slaw.  Honestly, the only thing that tasted good beside the margaritas were the beans. The ground beef was over seasoned with a weird flavor, the chicken was tough and the burrito was just plain over the top. I was not a fan at all.  We may have gotten the wrong items, but I am not sure if I am going to go back to find out. They do have some great margaritas though, if you just want a drink.
